DON'T PAY YOUR STAFF!

ntrepreneurs have found a new way to make money: get con

"In three months, we landed over $100k in jobs. When it came time to pay, the owner told me the money was gone,.and I wouldn't get it."
Tom was lost, was there a problem he missed?
"No.  The owner just didn't want to pay. I've got photocopies of the checks right here, showing we received all this money.", said Tom.
We contacted the owner, and he said, "Hey, I couldn't have planned this better!  Look this guy's greedy.  He just wants to get paid! Can you believe that? I created the opportunity for him!"
Fortunately, for the owner, Tom can't take him to small claims, since it was over five thousand he cannot take m and its too small (just over $15k

owed) to hire a lawyer.  "No lawyer would take it. they said that it wasn't worth it, because they figured we would settle for half and it could drag out for over a year. I just don't know what to do."
When asked, the firm owner boasted, "Screw Tom!  I can do it, cause I'll get away with it.  Plenty of other saps will work for me and I'll just do the same to them.  If he could sue me, he would have done it by now.  [laugh]. Hell, let him! If he wins, I'll just declare bankruptcy, and he'll have to pay me back everything.  A month later, I restart."
Our lawyers say, "this guy is a genius. Yeah, it IS too low to sue over. However, even if bankruptcy court asks, Tom won't have to pay it back."
"Unfortunately, this owner was dumb enough to actually pay Tom in the normal course of business. Payback only happens if you try to divert money.  Don't matter, Tom will just have to stand in line like all the other creditors and get zilch…[laughter]!"
Tom learned from this and now, six months later he runs his own firm, and getting paid double! "This time, I screw them!", says Tom, happily.
And the web firm owner?  We found out he went on a cruise two weeks after Tom left. "I guess there was some money after all! I was such a sap.", says Tom.

tractors to do the work, then don't pay them!
When Tom H. of Waco, TX landed a marketing contract with a new web firm in nearby Austin, he thought it was a good deal, "I make $15/hr, and 15% on any contracts we landed." As an independent contractor, he is responsible for all his taxes, and benefits.  The web firm gets a hard worker, but does not have to take the cash flow problems of paying out salaries or high fees up front and Tom would get more rewards when the firm landed big contracts. Great situation... right? Or so he thought.
